Would you travel there just to see a library? Yes you would.

March 29, 2012

I was born in Alexandria. The obvious attraction in this visit was to retrace the family neighbourhood, the house we lived in, Stanley Bay where we spent endless summer hours swimming as Dad fished and Mum watched over us from the rented beach cabin.

No one was more surpised than me to discover that the highlight for Alexandria was its magnificent library which was not even built when I lived there. What inspiring architecture. How it lifts the spirits to move around in those great spaces. How fitting a place to also house superb exhibits and displays. Amid the dilapidated and deteriorating surrounds in Alexandria this great library is world class in every way.

Oh, there is just one other reason you might want to visit. Delice is still operating and producing delectable pastries, cakes and icecreams.
