Queensland – How to put together an interesting 3-week itinerary for two.

September 8, 2015

Start off in Brisbane CBD and book in at one of the many self-contained serviced apartments. Ours was in Albert Street which made it very accessible to everything we would need for our 4-nights stay – shops, restaurants, entertainment, the botanic gardens, Southbank precinct etc.

Next, book your car rental to whisk you away to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. (You would not have needed a car before this for the CBD stay). In just over an hour we were in Montville. Three nights here in the mountains adds variety to your itinerary. It’s wonderful touring countryside with views, townships, local produce and friendly people everywhere. But make lunchtime your main meal in Montville because there’s not much open in the evening.

Noosa during the annual Jazz Festival weekend is great fun. Yes, you have to book ahead for accommodation etc., but you’ll find it’s worth the extra pre-planning required.

Recommended Noosa accommodation: Hotel Laguna, 6 Hastings Street, Noosa Heads, Queensland 4567 (+61 7 5447 3077; Why are we recommending this? For a start, it has had good, stable management for many years; very important for these types of accommodation. The pricing is also very competitive for Hastings Street in Noosa and you get a choice of  suite or studio serviced/self-contained units. For some people, the fact there are no elevators will be a debit, especially if they book on level three. If you can manage this, it will be worth the effort.

Finish off your itinerary by heading back south for another 4 nights at Caloundra where there are many more serviced apartments to choose from. It’s not too difficult at all to take in some more Sunshine Coast beach weather and life-style before you take that rental car back to the airport for the return flight home.

One more recommendation here. There’s a little corner of Happy Valley Beach (look it up at Esplanade Bulcock Beach, Caloundra) that will live up to its name for you: plenty of accommodation choices; absolute beach frontages; magnificent views; great for people watching from your balcony, but also a shipping lane; great walking paths in all directions; close to all the shops and the eating places.

This is the kind of itinerary that makes it seem you are having 4 holidays in one.
