Here, you don’t check out; they release you.

August 24, 2016

Coming into Helsinki, the big ferry seemed as if it just scraped past that ever-so-tight passage through the water. The next day, it was the reverse. We were on that piece of land at Suomenlinna Fortress and we were almost touching the ferry going past, just arms length away it seemed. Those of us who were not quite sure of the meaning of the word archipelago got an exciting geography lesson that morning.

When you stay at a very good hotel, you feel obliged to share the knowledge. This one is a converted jail and deserves to be very well recommneded: Hotel Katajanokka – 4*, Merikasarminkatu 1A, Helsinki, Finland. When your check out is completed, the reception staff tell you that “you are now released”.
